COVID-19 has forced many families to alter their lives. While many adults are facing challenges during this time, our children may also struggle with various hardships. Kids may now have more difficulty with their emotions such as feeling scared, worried or even bored. Our children are struggling with not learning under their normal circumstances; not being able to see relatives and friends; or even having to get use to wearing a face mask. We know that this may be a challenge for many families but author Regina Smith has a solution for youth and families everywhere.

“As long as I can remember, I’ve always been writing,” says Regina Smith. “Writing is healing for me. It teaches people,” she continues. Author and advocate, Regina Smith is now healing through her words in her new book title “Jaxon Learns A Lesson”. This empowering children’s book is story about a young boy who is suddenly challenged with the new day to day changes brought on by COVID-19. Although confused, the main character learns a huge lesson on emotions and family strength.

Author Regina Smith wants families to use her book as a toolkit to having open communication with their kids during this tough time. “The book’s message is about learning a lesson and understanding themes in life. It’s important for kids to be able to grasp big themes if given the tools to do so,” says Regina. This book is one tool that can shift the pandemic focus towards strengthening families in love.

“Jaxon Learns A Lesson” is inspiring children and families in these key ways. Here’s why you need to purchase your copy for your home, school, neighbor or relative:

  • This book is for everyone. Everyone is dealing with the pandemic and this book is a tool to use as you check-in with your children. “Check-in with your child. Ask them if they’re ok,” explains Regina. The emotional state of our children should still remain a priority.
  • Although this book title is for everyone, it’s also a call for increased minority representation in literature. “In 2018, 28% of published children’s books were represented by either a minority author or minority main character,” recalls author and educator, Regina Smith.
  • This book is also for kids to learn a lesson. “It’s a conversation piece for parents to use as they lead the way in an open discussion with their kids,” Regina continues. Big themes are teachable opportunities for youth to learn lessons as they grow to build character.

“COVID-19 has also inspired me to write more,” Smith expresses. The pandemic has served as a time for reflection and creativity as author Regina has more literary projects in the works. So in addition to having her title of “Jaxon Learns A Lesson,” she continues to build her brand through advocacy for youth, their well-being and their emotional state.
